An antique French Louis XV three-panel folding screen, hand-painted on canvas over a wood frame with brass-studded edges, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. Each arched front panel is built around a romantic garden scene, set within scrolling Rococo frames and wreathed in painted flower garlands and ribbon-tied laurel, with smaller floral panels and musical instruments below.
The scenes recall the romantic pastorals of Boucher, grounded in a soft, faded straw yellow with touches of rose, softened by age. The reverse is painted in the same tones with a simpler border around the top third of the panels and cameo-like swags.
Sourced from a Chicago estate, the screen is in good overall antique condition for its age: some paint loss, a restored area on one floral panel, and a fine craquelure throughout (see photos and condition details). Measuring roughly 64 inches tall and just under 50 inches wide fully open, this lovely Rococo screen is well suited to dividing a room, standing behind a bed, or as a backdrop behind a sofa or console.

Hand-painted canvas with allover fine craquelure to the painted surface, as would be expected for its age, but the paint and varnish is stable. Some paint loss throughout, consistent with age and not excessive. One floral panel has a restored/repaired area where earlier paint loss and canvas damage was addressed; noticeable on close inspection (see close-up photo). Brass stud trim along the wood-frame edges, with light tarnish and minor losses as expected for its age. Reverse finished in the same soft straw yellow; shows light scuffs, and a dark marker-type mark on one panel (see photo). Sold as-is, with all wear shown honestly in the photos. less
