Pair of Antique Anglo-Indian styled carved armchairs with caning.
These open armchairs combine English Regency design with South Asian motifs. The back features a caned opening with a reeded panel above and slits on either side. They have reeded arms leading to scroll ends supported by lobed onion forms. The round front legs are fluted. The seats are caned for cool comfort. The red hued wood is most likely padouk.
Construction and wear indicate that the chairs are old, perhaps dating back to the 1830s.
