This is an American antique pressed back oak rocking chair, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century.
Design Features & Construction
Crest Rail: Features a wide, arched top panel with a stylized foliate pattern. The pattern was created using a historical steam-pressing technique with heated steel dies.
Backrest Support: Built with six slender, symmetrically arranged turned spindles providing rigid structural support.
Stiles: Flanked by two tall, robust vertical outer posts decorated with elegant wood-turned detailing and finished with decorative finials at the tips.
Seat: Contoured, solid oak saddle seat showing the prominent natural grain of the wood.
Base: Supported by matching turned stretchers that lock the framework securely to the long, sweeping rocker runners.
