The elephant, a revered symbol of wisdom, strength, protection, and good fortune throughout Asia, is depicted carrying an elaborate ceremonial howdah featuring stylized longevity and prosperity symbols. (In South East Asia, an elephant with a trunk upward means good luck!)

The sculptural form is exceptionally detailed, from the raised trunk and tusks to the elaborate saddle blanket and ornamental harness. Rich burgundy glazing contrasts beautifully against cream, blue, black, and coral accents, creating a dramatic presence that works equally well in traditional, chinoiserie, Hollywood Regency, maximalist, or eclectic interiors.
