A striking and incredibly comfortable pair of mid-century modern swivel barrel-back lounge chairs, circa 1970s. These chairs feature a beautifully contoured, enveloping "tub" silhouette that rests on sculptural, space-age four-star polished chrome prong bases.
The pair comes clad in their original vintage gold/champagne woven herringbone upholstery, which features a subtle, elegant metallic luster that catches the light beautifully. Adding to their charm, the undercarriages retain historic vintage inventory ink stencils ("NK-8-1-12"), hinting at a past life in a curated mid-century executive or lounge setting.
With full 360-degree swivel functionality and a compact yet impactful footprint, this pair is perfect for anchoring an open-concept living room, office, or reading nook. They present with wonderful authentic vintage character as-is, or serve as an impeccable, high-design foundation for a custom upholstery project.
This pair of chairs is in good, structurally sound vintage condition with smooth, fully operational swivel mechanisms.
Upholstery & Foam: The original herringbone fabric is structurally intact with no major tears or open seams. It exhibits honest signs of age and residential use, including light surface handling soil/darkening along the armrests and top crest rails, alongside standard wrinkling on the tight backrests. The foam remains comfortable and supportive.
Chrome Bases: The heavy-duty four-star prong bases are solid and stable. The chrome finish retains a good shine but shows typical vintage patina, including light surface scuffs, minor pitting, and localized oxidation/light rust near the lower bends and weld points under the seat deck.

Condition Report Overall Condition: Good to Very Good (100% Functional Authentic Vintage)' This pair of swivel lounge chairs is structurally excellent and entirely stable, exhibiting a beautiful, honest vintage patina that dates to the late 1960s or 1970s. They are fully functional as-is for a retro look, or they serve as an ideal, structurally sound foundation for a high-end custom reupholstery project. Structural & Mechanical Integrity Swivel Mechanisms: Excellent. Both chairs retain a full, smooth 360 circle swivel action without catching, grinding, or leaning. Frames: The internal frames are rock-solid. There are no loose joints, wobbles, or structural warping when seated. Undercarriage: The black dust covers beneath the seat decks are intact and securely fastened. The heavy flat-bar steel mounting braces are firmly bolted to the frames. Upholstery & Foam Condition Fabric Integrity: The original champagne/gold herringbone woven textile is remarkably intact. There are no rips, holes, punctures, or open seams anywhere on either chair. Surface Wear & Soiling: True to their age, the chairs show light, honest signs of use. There is minor, typical handling darkening/surface soil along the top crest rails and the fronts of the armrests where hands naturally rest. Fabric Fit & Foam: The interior backrest fabric shows characteristic vertical vintage wrinkling and minor compression of the underlying foam. The loose seat cushions have softened over time, providing a relaxed, gently broken-in sit, but they still retain their shape beautifully. Chrome Base Condition Stability: The heavy-gauge four-star prong bases are completely straight and level on the floor. Finish Patina: The polished chrome retains a fantastic overall shine and reflects light beautifully. Noted Blemishes: Close inspection of the lower curves and the undersides of the metal legs reveals localized vintage pitting, light surface scuffs, and minor oxidation/surface rust freckling (primarily around the central weld points and where the feet meet the floor). This is standard for 50-year-old chrome and can be significantly minimized with a light application of a specialized chrome polish. less
