Bring a touch of late-Victorian sophistication to your library, office, or mantel with this antique stoneware tobacco jar and humidor by the renowned Staffordshire pottery house, Taylor, Tunnicliffe & Co. (Longton, England). Produced at the turn of the 20th century, this handsome piece channels the timeless elegance of classic Neo-Classical styling.
The cylindrical body features a rich, matte chocolate-brown slip ground, beautifully contrasted by sprigged white stoneware bas-relief appliqués. The decorative program showcases meticulously detailed classical Greek figures, musical lyres, and a crisp, repeating laurel leaf border encircling the upper rim. It comes complete with its original, matching glazed ceramic lid topped with a clean-lined finial knob.
The underside is fully marked with the maker’s prestigious interlocking "TT" garter mark beneath a crown, alongside the pattern range mark "A.F.C." (Alex F. Craig). The base features British Registry Number RD № 350249, which officially dates the design registration to late 1899. It also bears PATENT № 15259, which historically reference's the firm’s unique airtight compression lid engineering designed to keep fine pipe tobacco perfectly fresh.

True to its age and authentic utilitarian history, the base displays prominent hairline cracks across the maker's mark and there is a crack in the top (as pictured). These are tight lines that do not affect its ability to stand beautifully as a decorative centerpiece. The original rubber/cork compression washer on the inner lid is present. Wear is consistent with age and use. less
