John H. Kaneko (1926-2014) "Neighbor's Home" woodblock on paper, signed in Japanese characters on right. This woodblock was completed as part of Kaneko's master's thesis and includes a photograph of some of the blocks he used.
Kaneko was born in California and as a young man was sent with his family to an internment camp during World War II. He finished high school in the camp and served in the Korean War. After Korea, he earned a Master of Arts from Sacramento State College (now California State University, Sacramento) in 1955.
He spent his career as a teacher, teaching at American River College in the Sacremento area for 22 years. His brother James (1923-1999) also taught at ARC before being a partner in Iron Mountain Stoneware in Southwestern Virginia.
