The sculptural base is formed with scrolling supports, fluted passages, block-form plinth details, worn gilded acanthus carving, and incredibly unusual distinctive hoof feet, a detail closely associated with Régence and Louis XV-derived Rococo console furniture and later adapted within Italian decorative workshops. The compact wall-console form, aged ivory-painted ground, rubbed gilt surface, and dramatic marble slab give the piece strong 18th-century character, while the hoof-foot terminals distinguish it from related lion-paw-foot neoclassical examples. Comparable Italian Rococo and late 18th-century parcel-gilt marble-top consoles are typically assigned to regional workshops rather than named makers, with possible affinities to Northern Italian, Tuscan, or Florentine production.
