In 1959, he founded a small carpentry workshop in ried im innkreis, which later became team 7. From the very beginning, berghammer focused on ecological furniture production: high-quality solid wood furniture made from naturally treated wood. Team 7 was thus a pioneer in the field of sustainably produced furniture. The opus i armchair was designed by erwin berghammer in the 1980s.
