This brass, embossed container depicts a tavern scene, possibly from a Dutch or Fleming genre painting—nonetheless, a group of comrades or friends pondering life’s greatest puzzles! It could have many uses: a planter, waste receptacle, decorative container, or an umbrella stand. I believe that this one had been used for the latter, as the markings on the inside of the container’s base, resembles the patina of something that was wet, and set to drip-dry, inside of it. Nonetheless, whichever purpose it serves, it will certainly garner attention! It would make a wonderful gift for a history buff, positioned in a library, foyer or bar. ;) See less
