This is a substantial and beautifully ornate Rococo Revival giltwood wall mirror with a richly carved shell cartouche crest, flanking acanthus scroll sides, volute corner feet, and a rosette-centered lower apron. The gilt finish has a warm, aged patina with the kind of honest wear that speaks to genuine age rather than reproduction freshness. The original mercury-foxed mirror glass is intact and spectacular — the silvering loss creates that moody, atmospheric quality that decorators seek and cannot fake.
Construction is solid wood with gesso relief carving throughout. The back retains its original hanging hardware. Minor gesso loss at the crest top is consistent with age and does not detract from the overall presence of the piece.
At 34 inches tall and 17.5 inches wide, this mirror makes a strong statement over a console, in an entry hall, or as a focal point in any maximalist or classically appointed interior.
