Gorgeous, authentic vintage Art Nouveau elongated oval serving tray or dish, in a heavy cast brass decorated in the center … Read more Gorgeous, authentic vintage Art Nouveau elongated oval serving tray or dish, in a heavy cast brass decorated in the center with flowing embossed organic floral motifs into the surface. The handles feature stylized, openwork geometric cutouts. (a hallmark of European decorative arts from that era). The high polished brass highlights on the raised flowers and the deep, dark patina in the recessed background gives this piece a wonderful sense of depth. Underside shows 4 small raised nodules (feet) built into the design to lift the tray slightly off the table.
Back in the day this piece would have been used for holding calling cards, serving bread/sweets, or acting as a purely decorative tabletop centerpiece.
Today would be great placed on an entryway table to hold keys and coins, used on a vanity for jewelry, or simply displayed as art on a display stand.
