Architects: Franz Gessner and Hubert Gessner
This pair of armchairs represents an extraordinary art-historical and investment value. Originating from the 1920s in Czechoslovakia, the design embodies the bold transition into the Art Deco style combined with geometric architectural modernism. The masterminds behind this exceptional piece are the celebrated architect brothers, Franz and Hubert Gessner. Both visionaries were prominent students of Professor Otto Kolomann Wagner, the pioneer of the Vienna Secession and one of the founding fathers of modern European architecture. These specific armchairs were custom-designed for a house envisioned by the Gessner brothers themselves, making them an exclusive piece of architectural site-specific furniture. The armchairs feature a semi-circular, architecturally striking barrel-back frame crafted from solid oak, ensuring monumental stability and presence. During a meticulous restoration process, the original wood polish was sensitively revived, bringing back the rich depth, warm tone, and silky luster of the oak surface while preserving its authentic historical patina and prominent grain.
The set has undergone a complete, uncompromising upholstery reconstruction from the frame up. It features new professional upholstery in genuine leather in an elegant deep green shade, which coordinates beautifully with the dark hue of the oak. The leather is meticulously fastened along the backrest using decorative brass upholstery tacks, emphasizing the high-end craftsmanship and luxurious character of the period. This pair of armchairs is an ideal choice for discerning collectors and investors seeking an authentic piece with a definitive provenance and a powerful history.
It has been re-polished with polyutherane piano lacquer by our professional refurbishing team in Czechia according to the original process.
