Own a wonderful piece of Americana / early fair ground / amusement park / carnival folk art history, with this charming authentic mid-century painted wood and metal midway carousel ride with desirable original patina!
United States, circa 1950s/early 1960s
Kids carousel / merry-go-round ride, featuring a wooden body in the form of a motorcycle bike, based on period Harley Davidson, hand painted on all sides, with rare plastic spinning wheel, tall polished steel handlebars with original grips, elongated padded seat in heavily worn upholstery, overall freestanding on a sturdy cast iron base that once mounted this ride to the carousel platform. Remarkably well preserved all things considered, retaining the authentic antique character and charm you'd expect from years of children's use and enjoyment!
- Dimensions: (approx)
43.5" High, 53" Wide, 12" Deep
- Provenance / Acquisition:
Acquired from the highly reputable auction house, Austin Auction Gallery, est.1983, Austin, Texas. June 2026 Celebration of Europe's Finest Estates catalog, lot #2116
- Condition Report:
Good antique / vintage condition with beautifully aged heavily worn patina, wear commensurate with authentic age and indicative of carnival use.
Strong, sturdy, stable, structurally sound. Attractive appearance. Heavily worn seat upholstery with tears and losses. Upon close inspection the paint appears to be original, a rarity as many were repainted over the years, retaining some expected losses, scattered nicks, scuffing, scratches, dings, rubbing, abrasions, accretions, the chic mildly distressed weathered patinated appearance does not detract from the display but only adds to the overall authenticity, cultural interest and rich historical depth!
