The heavy strap iron frame has angular corners with projecting vertical posts - very architectural and Gothic Revival in feel.

The finish is authentic: dark brown/black iron with natural rust oxidation and patina as seen in your detail photos. Decades of exposure created this "monastery/mission" surface - no paint, just honest age. The heavy hand-forged chains and ceiling plate are original and add to the medieval aesthetic.
