Circa 1950's-1970's ~ Large Classical Revival Architectural Plaster Wall Panel ~ Quadriga Chariot Relief w/ Faux Bronze Patina
Offered here is a striking large-scale architectural plaster wall panel featuring a Classical Revival bas-relief scene of a winged Victory/Nike figure driving a quadriga, or four-horse chariot. The composition has excellent movement and depth, with detailed horses, flowing reins, drapery, chariot wheel, and a dramatic winged figure.
This piece is substantial in size and presence, measuring roughly 39" wide x 25" high x 3.5" deep.
The weight is around 30-40lbs at the least. If you need approximate weight message me and I can get that for you.
This sculpture appears to be made from a heavy cast plaster or Hydrocal-type material with a hand-applied faux bronze/verdigris finish. The surface has warm copper, bronze, green, and dark patina tones that give it the look of aged metal while retaining the sculptural quality of an architectural plaster casting.
The back is unfinished plaster with hand-troweled texture and the number “645” written on the reverse, likely an inventory, mold, or production number.
This may have originally been used as architectural decoration in a commercial interior, restaurant, hotel, theater, lobby, Mediterranean-style home, or decorative wall installation.
This is a wonderful statement piece for a fireplace wall, entryway, library, office, dining room, garden room, boutique, restaurant, or interior design project. It works especially well with Mid-Century Modern, Hollywood Regency, Classical Revival, Mediterranean Revival, Grand Tour, and architectural salvage interiors.
Really great vintage condition with the slightest natural age-appropriate wear, surface variation or patina irregularities, other very minor imperfections consistent with an older architectural plaster piece. The finish is intentionally aged and mottled, giving it an antique bronze-style appearance.
