This is a UNIQUE, Hard-To-Find, VINTAGE, EXCELLENT Condition, Hand Crafted "Hand Carved Mahogany Wood Carving African Folk Art Wooden Mother … Read more This is a UNIQUE, Hard-To-Find, VINTAGE, EXCELLENT Condition, Hand Crafted "Hand Carved Mahogany Wood Carving African Folk Art Wooden Mother Woman Figure Figurine Statue" handmade in Benin, Africa in the early-1960s.  My friend's brother is a doctor and spent the years 1962-1964 providing medical care in Benin; this WONDERFUL Statue was given to him by a patient.  Upon his return, he displayed it inside a glass cabinet with other African objects from his travels.  Packed away in the early-1980s, it was forgotten about until it was recently rediscovered; it has been safely and securely stored for 30 years.  It is in EXCELLENT Condition with NO marks, stains, odors, chips, cracks or other damage; it comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home.  Hand Carved from a single piece of wood, this Decorative Wood Statue has a height of approximately 12 inches with a round base that has a diameter of approximately 1 3/4 inches; it is NOT Marked or Signed. 

With a graceful shape and nicely detailed features, it is ENTIRELY hand carved from a single piece of wood by a SUPERBLY talented Benin artist who has created a primitively BEAUTIFUL Figure.  The workmanship has WONDERFUL texture and flowing lines and this Statue is truly a UNIQUE work of African Folk Art that is both ELEGANT and PRIMITIVE at the same time.  Carefully carved from solid African Mahogany Hardwood, this Mother Woman features an interesting and original, painstakingly carved shape.  Holding a basket on her head with one hand, she is supporting the child tied to her back with the other hand.  Highly collectible, it is a thick, well-weighted piece that is a FUN and EXOTIC addition to any room and is sure to be complimented on by everyone who sees it.
