Discovered at an estate sale and later incorporated into Chatmon's personal studio decor, it lived among a collection of objects gathered by the artist, now, thoughtfully being released from the artist's studio.

Based on comparable examples, it is believed that the piece may be carved from crushed oyster shell, a material often associated with decorative carvings produced in the Philippines during the mid-to-late twentieth century. However, no maker's marks or documentation accompany the piece, and all information regarding age, origin, materials, and attribution should be considered speculative.
