A large, hand-thrown studio art pottery vase by American ceramicist Jamie Fine. This earthenware vessel features an ovoid shape with a sharply tapered, narrow footed base and a rimless top opening. The exterior showcases a deeply textured, cross-hatched body with a multi-toned, sunset-gradient slip glaze transitioning from deep earth-red at the base to textured ochre and a muted pink shoulder. The upper body is further decorated with three distinct horizontal rings of inlaid oval medallions in alternating shades of dark charcoal gray, maroon, and light pink.
Jamie Fine is an American independent studio ceramicist who studied under the renowned modernist sculptor and potter Ruth Duckworth at the University of Chicago. Working primarily out of her long-time studio at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia, she designs highly textured vessels and large installations that echo patterns and forms found in the natural world.
Based on the maker's career trajectory, signature slip-gradient glaze techniques, and the textured carving style, this piece is estimated to have been made between 1985 and 1995.
