This collection was commissioned by the Danish royal family in the 18th century and continues today in limited quantities, making it one of the most prestigious porcelain patterns in the world. Each piece requires extensive hand painting and the pierced and gilded borders are among the most labour-intensive decorative techniques used by Royal Copenhagen.
This nine inch, Gagea lutea var. glaucascens Lge., plate is one of the celebrated botanical specimens featured in the renowned Flora Danica service. The center of this particular plate is decorated with the Yellow Anemone, complete with its delicate yellow petals, lobed leaves, and slender stems. This floral specimen is executed with scientific accuracy and artistic refinement. Surrounding the central motif is the iconic reticulated and pierced gilt border. The edge features intricate openwork panels and beaded ornamentation.
