Handsome pair of Hollywood Regency Asian female and male figural lamps in the style of James Mont wearing black hard … Read more Handsome pair of Hollywood Regency Asian female and male figural lamps in the style of James Mont wearing black hard backed fabric tapered shades. They have a marking of Bodhisattva – Hilgos. They are in wonderful vintage condition. There have been restorations made to the plaster, but they are not noticeable unless closely examined. Please see photos. We will ship with or without the shades. Circa mid-20th century.

This pair of lamps will be the absolute pièce de résistance to any room where they are placed! Made in the marvelous mid-20th century Hollywood Regency style of James Mont they demand attention. The serene male and female Asian figures and their mounting bases are all of one piece and are comprised of molded and carved plaster with a faux wood finish. They are outfitted with a fitter style socket and white glass torchier globe. The black linen look, tapered lamp shades add just the right touch. They are the perfect pair for your bedside cabinets or to be featured on a lovely console.

NOTE: These lamps are signed or marked on the back Bodhisattva – Hilgos. We have not determined exactly whether that is a name of the pieces and a signature or not. Bodhisattva is a term used in Himalayan style art to describe a peaceful god-like appearance based on the deities of classical Indian literature. It is also a Buddhist religious term meaning heroic aspirant to enlightenment. And, there is an artist, Hilda Goldblatt Gorenstein, who signed her work with an androgynous professional working name of Hilgos. But…we can find no mention of her working in this type of medium. So, whether these are pieces of sculpture by her or not remains a mystery.
