The centres are painted with named Scottish views, Loch Cullin and Loch Alsh, framed by vivid apple-green grounds and richly moulded gilt borders.

The reverse bears pattern number 5750, linking the pair to a larger dessert service. Their combination of landscape painting, bold colour and Rococo Revival modelling reflects the high level of decorative craftsmanship associated with the factory.

Operating for only fourteen years, Copeland & Garrett occupies a distinctive place in the history of English ceramics. Pieces from this period are considerably rarer than later Copeland wares and are represented in museum collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The combination of rarity, documented pattern number, named topographical subjects and impressive decorative presence gives this pair considerable collector appeal.
