A scene of everyday life and family chores, an oil on canvas painting dating to the mid 19th century. The scene is set in a modest English home where a couple with their three children sit together, the father peeling apples, the littlest child patting the dog. The cupboard at the far right is stocked with nice English plates and platters, possibly Mason’s Ironstone, giving a hint of a trajectory towards prosperity. The canvas is stamped on the back with an art supplier’s shop name LECHERTIER - BARBE, at the address of 60 Regent Street, London. The canvas dates between 1848-1864, because after that the company added “& Co.” to its name. Apparently unsigned. Very nice later gilded frame. Heavy patina, craquelure and signs of age to the canvas surface, frame in very good condition.
