This is a antique Chinese hand-painted cylindrical tea caddy (chazutsu), crafted from natural bamboo. It features an artisan-carved and hand-painted relief decoration depicting a goldfish swimming amidst green aquatic pine needles or seaweed branches. In Chinese art, the goldfish is a classic symbol of wealth, abundance, and good fortune due to its golden coloration. This cylindrical caddy fitted with a secure, flush-fitting outer lid and an internal seal to maintain freshness and shield loose tea leaves from ambient moisture.
