Founded in 1945 in Menden, Bega began as a small workshop making wrought-iron lighting before evolving into one of Germany’s most respected architectural lighting firms—known for exacting construction and durable materials. Those early years yielded only a small body of residential designs like this, making surviving examples especially sought after by collectors. Here, a sculptural blackened metal tripod base supports an orb-like, ribbed plastic diffuser, an early use of molded plastic that feels distinctly modern even today. The shade appears to hover above the slender stem, its subtly ridged surface softening the light into a warm, enveloping glow. A minimal handle at the top echoes the geometry of the tripod below, giving the piece a quiet, architectural presence. Floor lamps from Bega’s 1950s production rarely come to market, particularly in this tripod configuration, and are increasingly documented in European design archives. An uncommon early Bega piece that introduces gentle, atmospheric light—ideal beside low seating, in a reading corner, or as a sculptural focal point in a living room. Condition: In very good vintage condition with beautiful, age-appropriate character throughout. The ribbed plastic shade shows light surface dimpling and one small, unobtrusive tear. The blackened metal tripod base exhibits gentle wear—minor scratches, scuffs, and softening to the finish—consistent with decades of thoughtful use. Fully rewired by our in-house restoration team.
