Constructed from solid wood and wrapped in hand-worked copper, the table takes the form of a compact, architectural volume designed to float effortlessly on the wall. The copper top is richly tooled with an abstract botanical motifleaf-like forms pressed and etched into the surface. Over time, the copper has developed a deep, varied patina, with warm brown tones, verdigris undertones, and subtle surface markings that speak to both process and age. The open-fronted silhouette offers a practical surface and storage niche, its darkened interior contrasting with the luminous copper exterior. Sculptural yet functional, the piece works equally well as a side table, bedside surface, or small wall-mounted console, compelling on its own or installed as a pair. Machined and hand-finished, this piece reflects Cerratos pursuit of modernism in metalworkwhere industrial precision meets the hand of the artisan. Victor Cerrato (19172008) was an Italian sculptor and ceramist who founded his Turin workshop in the postwar years, a period marked by both rebuilding and artistic reinvention. His work bridged the worlds of craft and modernismrooted in the tactile language of folk tradition yet reaching toward new, sculptural forms that spoke to the optimism and experimentation of mid-century Italy. With a distinctive hand and material sensitivity, Cerrato transformed clay into rhythmic, architectural compositions that blurred the line between object and art. His influence resonated with a later generation of Italian makers, including Nerone Ceccarelli, co-founder of NP2 (Nerone & Patuzzi), whose own sculptural furniture carried forward Cerratos pioneering spirit of form, texture, and expressive modernity. Condition: Very good vintage condition. The copper surfaces display age-appropriate patina, tonal variation, and light surface markings consistent with hand-worked metal and decades of use. The wood structure is solid and structurally sound. The back is unfinished, as intended. Mounting hardware is included. See less
