This stunning Victorian ebonized paper-mache tilt-top table features a hand-painted floral motif with intricate mother-of-pearl inlay and scalloped edge. The tilt-top mechanism allows the table top to be flipped vertically when not in use. The detail and brilliance of the mother-of-pearl is extraordinary and in very good condition given 150+ years. Some missing detail on the base but your attention is drawn to the table top.
There are remnants of stickers on the underside including the 1933 Century of Progress customs/exhibit label which means the piece was imported into the U.S. for exhibition or brought in by a collector. All indications put the period of manufacture from 1850-1875. Always fascinated by the provenance of a piece.
Folded dimensions; 25" x 16.5" x 44".
