Offered is a mid 20th Century ceramic ashtray from the iconic Harry's Bar in Venice, Italy. It's an ellipse shape with cigar/cigarette rests on either end, and features their signature cocktail shaker-wielding bartender logo rendered in relief at center, with “HARRY’S BAR” and “VENEZIA” impressed around the rim.
The ashtray was originally designed by ceramist Tarcisio Tosin, and it's possible that the signature or maker's mark on the under-surface is his. This piece is a soft salmon/blush pink color.
Measures 5.5" long, 5" wide, 1.5" deep
A bit of the history
Harry’s Bar was founded in 1931 by Giuseppe Cipriani, and was named in honor of Harry Pickering, an American who loaned him the money to open. It's the birthplace of the Bellini cocktail and carpaccio. Frequented by a who’s-who of 20th century cultural icons over the years, it was a favorite haunt of Ernest Hemingway - he practically lived there in the 1940s and dared to instruct the bartender on how he wanted his drinks produced as legendary British WW2 commander Bernard "Monty" Montgomery had shown him - and regularly hosted the likes of Truman Capote, Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, Maria Callas, Jimmy Stewart, Charlie Chaplin, Peggy Guggenheim, Joe DiMaggio, and numerous others, including more recently, George Clooney.

This piece is intact, but there are two small glaze dry-spot flaws near the A and 2nd R of HARRY, and one on the opposite side near the Z - see detailed images.. The ceramic bisque is exposed, but not dented, implying that they are flaws in production. Any imperfections in its craftsmanship are innate, and any wear is commensurate with its age and past usage. less
