Pair of Napoleon III style toadstool armchairs, Second Empire period, upholstered in plain purple velvet.
The rounded, enveloping back, characteristic of the toadstool design, is highlighted with a twisted braid of matching purple passementerie that runs along the contour of the back and the low armrests. The base is adorned with a continuous twisted fringe of purple passementerie that partially conceals the truncated conical wooden legs. The low seat height of 35 cm and the compact shape are typical of the toadstool armchair popularized during the Second Empire. Sold as a pair.
Dimensions per chair: H. 82 cm – W. 50 cm – Seat height 35 cm – Weight 12 kg.
Good overall condition. The velvet shows some slight signs of wear consistent with the age of the pieces. Cleaning recommended.
