The collection includes a … Read more A beautifully composed set of antique Japanese black lacquerware presented in a woven wicker carrying basket. The collection includes a rectangular tray, a round serving tray, a small elongated tray or letter opener, and a rounded lidded object — each hand-decorated in gilt with classical figural and landscape scenes including courtly figures, a sailing junk, garden pavilions, and water features. The technique suggests maki-e or painted lacquer work consistent with Meiji to early Showa period production (circa 1880–1930s). Mother-of-pearl inlay accents are visible on the round tray. Wear consistent with age and use; the gilt decoration remains readable and evocative. A collector's set with strong display appeal.
