A calm mid-century painting that captures a row of coastal houses perched along a gently sloping bluff, executed in oil onto canvas.

The angular rooftops of the homes step rhythmically across the incline as the land falls away toward a calm, uninterrupted band of sea on the horizon. There’s a quiet sense of stillness here – no figures, no movement – just the presence of these structures holding their place against the elements, evoking the calm solitude of a seaside village.

Rendered in a modernist style with a subtle lean toward abstraction, the composition simplifies form while preserving a strong architectural narrative. The perspective feels slightly flattened, allowing the houses, hillside, and sky to merge into a cohesive, almost dreamlike plane. A restrained and harmonious palette anchors the scene: chalky whites and soft creams dominate the hillside and facades, offset by deeper blacks and browns in the rooftops, while a pale grey-blue sky creates a gentle, atmospheric backdrop. This oil on canvas is present in a beautiful linen lined wood frame, with an inner cream border. The painting is in excellent vintage condition, and the frame has some scuffs.
