A boldly sculptural ceramic dove by Austin Productions, cast and dated 1981, with maker's stamp clearly legible on the underside. The form is confidently volumetric — a rounded, gravity-centered body tapering to a flat, fanlike tail — with surface decoration drawn from the sgraffito tradition: incised concentric circles, stamped rosettes, and banded feather registers across the wing and tail panels. The matte finish reads like raw stoneware or cast stone, warm greige in tone with natural variation across the surface.
Austin Productions (Brooklyn, NY) commissioned trained sculptors throughout the mid-20th century, producing cast editions in ceramic and durastone that bridged studio craft and accessible decorative art. This dove sits among the company's more quietly restrained work — less figurative drama, more pure object. It holds well on a shelf, mantle, or side table as a standalone sculptural form.
