It is a foldout set of 3 fashion pochoirs intoducing couture of the 1922 season to an elite Parisian clientele. It is a standup triptych with 3 panels of pochoirs with a reverse side of fashion vignettes. Pochoir was a labor-intensive stencil printing technique that was popular in Paris in the Art Deco period. Once the stencil was created, the “colorists” applied color pigments by hand and in layered applications to create vivid accurately colored images. The manual aspect of pochoir was its most valuable attribute while at the same time became one of its greatest failures. It was both labor intensive and time consuming, making it an expensive and slow process of printmaking. As a result, this technique was short lived and was replaced by modern lithography techniques. Thus, pochoirs have become rare and highly collectible with the passage of time. The 3 sets of designs speak to glamour, elegance and sophistication of the Art Deco period. Note the dress hemlines, the intricate waistlines, the details of patterns, the hairstyles/hats, and the shoes. The dresses are charimingly named. There are 2 signatures of the fashion artists as well. This triptych is in pristine condtion with strong color and no age indications. The total dimension is 18 x 10.75 inches. See less
