A 1970 etching by the Israeli-American artist Benjamin Levy (1940-2022). This Surrealist style work depicts a woman wearing a dark dress and headscarf sitting between two windows that stand without walls in the midst of rocky landscape. Displayed in a black frame and a white mat, the print is dated and signed, both in English and Hebrew, to the lower edge.
Born in Tel Aviv, Levy was born into a family of Yemenite and Sephardi Jews in Tel Aviv. In Israel he studied art under Abraham Yaskil. Levy later moved to Paris where he studied at the École de Montparnasse and then on to New York City where he studied at the Pratt Graphic Art Center. From 1965, Levy divided his time between New York and Israel with his family and participated in over 100 group shows and over 80 solo shows of his works. Levy's works have been part of the collections of the the Jewish Museum in New York City, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, among others.
