A charming find! This antique Chinese soapstone figure of some sort of Marsupial with little one in tow dates to the 19th century, and was found in Beijing. The Marsupial's head is removable to reveal a small hidden container, which is believed to have been used to store Opium. If you like Marsupials, this friendly creature will capture your heart!
The fragment of a wax seal shown in the last photo is the artist's imprint.
