He is carrying a backpack, a rifle and a shoulder case.. The figure is mounted on a wood base with his 'legs' actual animal horns, likely goat, ram or roe deer. and are integrated into the wooden figure.
The original use of the horns on the figure would have been for practical purposes such as hanging a riding crop, walking cane or a garment of some type.. The piece was purchased in Germany and is an authentic piece of Alpine or Black Forest folk art likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. There is a hook attached on the back of the figure providing an opportunity for hanging on the wall as would have been the original use. See less
