A richly detailed Capodimonte lamp, acquired by artist Tawny Chatmon with the intention of reimagining it within her studio practice, is now being offered from her personal collection. Although it was originally considered as source material for future work, Tawny has chosen to release a selection of unused objects, allowing them the opportunity to find new homes.
Originally produced by and named after the porcelain workshops of southern Italy, pieces in the Capodimonte tradition are admired for their elaborate hand-modeled ornamentation, sculptural relief work, abundant floral motifs, and scenes inspired by classical art, mythology, and pastoral depictions. This piece features ivory tones accented with hand-painted pastels and gilded detailing throughout, all set upon a geometric metal base. Its sculptural quality makes it striking even when unlit, serving equally well as a decorative object, collector’s piece, or statement lamp.
The lamp is fully functional, though some flaws are present and have been documented in the accompanying photos. The component that holds the light bulb appears to have possibly been updated at some point, though this cannot be confirmed with certainty.
