The top surface is arranged as a central panel enclosed by pinstripes of skillful inlay like a twisted rope, creating definition on the edges. Two deep drawers feature veneered fronts in vertical orientation, repeating the same rope twist inlay to suggest paneling interrupted by oval brass ring pulls. One key present to share between the (two) working locks. The drawers slide easily, opening to a clean interior lined in gorgeous vintage Florentine paper of sepia and white floral pattern. Square, tapering legs inspired by Louis XVI elevate the case from the floor. Departing from the standard three row commodes in the French tradition, this example has a modern sophistication that will appeal to collectors of 20th century design as well.
