This beautiful and rare pair of claret jugs is a fine example of Victorian or early 20th-century applied arts, characterised by the combination of blown glass and ornamental metal fittings.
The body is made of blown glass in a deep emerald green colour.
The upper fittings (neck, spout, handle and lid) are in silver-plated metal (often pewter or galvanised alloys typical of WMF production).
The body features a typical diagonally ribbed pattern that starts at the base and tapers towards the neck, creating a dynamic play of reflections on the glass surface.
It is fitted with a hinged lid operated by a small lever (thumb piece), useful for protecting the contents without hindering decanting.
The object belongs to the Rococo Revival or late 19th-century Historicist style.
The metal mount is richly decorated with acanthus leaf motifs, scrolls and plant tendrils that wrap around the neck.
This artwork, never before on the market, comes from an important Italian private collection
The cast handle, shaped like a sinuous scroll (scroll handle), features sculptural elements reminiscent of organic forms, ensuring an elegant and balanced grip.
