Eye catching hand woven Ikat wall hanging or panel made from natural palm fibre with natural dyes from the 1970's.
Outer section features vertical stripes in earthy tones, whilst the centre with stylised zoomorphic animals facing each other. (Crocodiles). Such weavings were made to guard a household.
Made using the ancient ikat technique - in Kalimantan (Dyak) or possibly the Sunda Islands.
Comes with 2 original fruitwood hangers. Please note this is a continuous piece, a loop. The fabric is quite stiff but is easily bendable.
This makes a super interesting backdrop, wall hanging or feature.
Listed by East2West Furniture Florida.

Ikat translates to "to tie" or "to bind" in Indonesian. The defining characteristic of ikat weaving is that the pattern is strictly determined before the weaving even begins.
This painstaking process requires artisans to measure, tightly tie off, and dye yarn in specific sequences, meaning any mistake ruins the whole item.
Some Ikat are highly collectable and command a high price
