Sage green ground gives the piece a muted, aged quality, while the darker woven motifs sit against it with enough contrast to read clearly without becoming heavy. The pattern is woven into the fabric structure as a jacquard textile, which means the acanthus scrollwork, cherub figures, and floral garlands are built from the weave itself rather than applied to a base cloth. Unlike surface-treated or coated fabrics, the design cannot fade, peel, or separate over time because it has no separate surface layer to degrade. The tonal variation between the sage green ground and the darker motifs comes entirely from thread color, giving the piece a consistent depth across the full face.
