Pair of iconic Toy Armchairs, designed by the world-renowned French designer Philippe Starck in 1998 for the premium Italian design house Driade, as part of their Atlantide Collection . Crafted entirely from a single injection-molded block of high-tech orange polypropylene make these chairs suitable for both indoor and outdoor use because of the highly weather-resistant material. The chairs even feature a distinctive functional circular slot in the seat center to prevent rainwater accumulation. These were also designed to easily stack vertically up to 14 chairs high for efficient storage.
The Toy Armchair has been widely recognized as a contemporary design classic. This particular chair and color are on display at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, purchased for the collection in 2003.
The authentic manufacturer imprint located on the underside of the Toy Armchair explicitly notes "by STARCK", "ATLANTIDE COLLECTION", and "MADE IN ITALY". In addition the Production Date Grid provides a date stamp used during the plastic injection molding process. Based on the markings, these chairs appear to have been produced around May/June 2002.
Both chairs are in pristine condition with a rich, uniform, unfaded orange hue.
