Mid 19th Century Staffordshire "Band of Hope" Figure/Flatback Features a Lady with Floral Dress, Holding a Shield with a Cross Along with a Boy Holding a Flag and a Tree Trunk Spill Vase.
Founded in Leeds in 1847 by the Rev. Jabez Tunnicliffe, the Band of Hope was a massive non-denominational society dedicated to teaching working-class children the importance of sobriety and abstaining from alcohol. To commemorate the movement, Staffordshire potteries produced commemorative figures, children's plates, and figural groups.
