The case is made from toleware with gold stenciled text and brass carrying handle. This a well preserved barrister's wig in tightly coiled, cream colored horsehair curls, dating from the late 19th century. The wig itself fits neatly into its carrying case which contains the Ravenscroft -Law, Wig and Robe Makers label from Lincolns Inn, London. The firm of Ravenscroft was started in 1689 and it is still in business at present and Robe Makers to His Majesty the King.
The wig case also includes several court collars and bands and these are essential requirement of the formal court dress for barristers, solicitors and judges in the UK and Commonwealth legal systems. The strings on the bands are strong indicators of a 19th century Ravenscroft wig.
The barrister wig case is one of the more historically collectible pieces and provides a wonderful example of English law customs. So fantastic! See less
