Architect: Willem Hendrik Gispen
Chair model Fn24
This pair of armchairs is an absolute icon of interwar functionalism and the Bauhaus style from the 1930s. The timeless design was originally conceived by the famous Dutch architect and designer Willem Hendrik Gispen. In Czechoslovakia, these chairs were produced under license by the renowned company Mücke-Melder as model Fn24. Due to their immense popularity and exceptional comfort, very similar variants were also manufactured by other prominent domestic brands, such as Gottwald (type Ek 34) and Slezák (type K 29).
The foundation of the chairs is an elegantly bent tubular chrome-plated steel frame, creating a cantilever construction that offers a pleasant springing effect. During the comprehensive restoration, the chrome was professionally polished to a high mirror finish. A standout craftsmanship detail can be found on the armrests made of solid beech wood, which have been newly finished in a black piano lacquer and polished to a luxurious, high-gloss luster. This deep, mirror-like surface harmonizes perfectly with the cool metal and the texture of the fabric.
The chairs have been newly upholstered from the ground up. The premium Leone upholstery fabric from the prestigious Austrian brand Backhausen was selected for the cover. The textile, featuring a subtle and sophisticated geometric pattern in grey and white tones, beautifully enhances the clean lines of the design. This fully restored set represents a high-quality collector's investment piece that will serve as a magnificent centerpiece in any modern, industrial, or classic interior.
According to the original process, our professional refurbishing team in Czechia has restored and reupholstered the item.
This item features classic Bauhaus design elements. Elements of this style are neutral colors and occasional bright primary colors. Bauhaus designers avoided the fussy and pretentious, looking for clean, modern lines. Perfect for a timeless yet modern look. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
