About the Museum/artist:

Signed J. Fajardo, Ibagué, this sculptural ceramic pitcher is attributed to Julio Fajardo, an important Colombian artist from Tolima associated with the development of ceramic arts in Ibagué. Fajardo studied in Italy, helped advance regional ceramic production, and founded the Escuela de Cerámica Departamental in Ibagué in 1957. His work is represented in the cultural history and collections of the Museo de Arte del Tolima, strengthening the significance of this rare figural studio ceramic as both a decorative object and a collectible example of Colombian modernist pottery.
