Clayton Marcus was a furniture manufacturer based in Hickory, NC, that specialized in upholstered furniture. As you can see in the photo of their original manufacturer's tag, their clever moniker was "Upholstered Irresistibles."
The chair is 52 years old, but overall it is in excellent condition. It is upholstered in a striped velvet in a rich golden color with beautiful and interesting details (see close-up photos). It also has arm covers that fit very snugly -- take a look at the two photos of the arms; the second one has the covers in place.
It is priced so that if you wish to reupholster it, it will be similar to the cost of new furniture. That said, both the fabric and the details are special.

The seat cushion is still fine, although you might want to plump it up a bit, or change the filling altogether -- that's a very personal choice, as is keeping the arm covers in place or removing them. The feet have some small nicks, although the skirt hides them. Also, there are some small discolorations underneath the seat cushion (see last two photos). less
