In the center both feature black transfer illustrations from the world renown literary masterpiece, "The Ingenious Gentlemen Don Quixote of La Mancha", by Miguel de Cervantes
One of the plate depicts the famous hidalgo on his horse, while at the other he is accompanied by his devoted squire Sancho Panza
Stunning lemon yellow borders, characteristic for variety of series of Creil plates, produced at the time
Both marked on the underside with the Creil stamp
Made of fine faience, a lead-glazed white earthenware, made by Crail et Montreau
Emulating the creamware perfected by J. Wedgwood in the 1770s, the fine faience of Creil et Montreau introduced the industrial technique of transfer printing on pottery in France and raised it to a high state of perfection during the peak years in the 19th century
