Patinated bronze Chinese Zun vessel in form of a Phoenix or heavenly rooster bird, inspired by ancient Shang and Zho Dynasty bronze ware. Originally a ritual container to hold wine, the removable lid would also act as a cup. This piece could also be used as a decorative vase, sculptural element, or candle holder.
Similar forms were also used by mid century designer William "Billy" Haines to create table lamps.
Shows stylized geometric thunder curl pattern in relief on wing symbolizing good fortune, high status, and protection.
