This poster is an example of a hikifuda, a graphic flyer used in Japan between the 17th and 19th centuries to advertise anything from restaurants to accessories, cosmetics, and medicines. It was produced towards the end of the Meiji period (1868-1912), a chapter of Japanese history characterized by Western influence and rapid industrialization.
This print is in fair condition, with some creasing and water stains on the right side. See photos for more details.
